The InFeCtuS Argon Wii is based on an 350 MHz Actel A3P-125 FPGA, which is programmable through a JTAG connector - in conjunction with either an InFeCtuS 2 device or an Injectus programmer. It has features similar to the D2CKey, and as of firmware v1.3 supports region-free play.

The InFeCtuS team have said a soon to be released firmware will lower the wire count from 16 to 10 for the D2C chipset as a result of the new competition from the Wasabi modchip. It will also introduce support for all the current Wii chipsets rather than just the D2C chipset (wire count for non-D2C chipsets will be 6). Also the update will grant the ability to upgrade the modchips firmware via DVD - despite InFeCtuS recommending the JTAG connector as the preferred upgrade method.

Argon comes with 1.8 firmware. And SPI soldered on. The SPI comes blank, you need an injectus programmer to flash the Argon for their 'wasabus' firmware. The wasabus firmware is a dump of the wasabi firmware, tweaked to run on Argon hardware. 9 wires, just like argon. Without the programmer, it will be 1.8 firmware, which is a stable 13 wire hack

How do you upgrade the Argon?

The Argon comes with a flat ribbon cable to can be neatly installed to be coming out of the back of your Wii. With the use of the ‘Injectus' programmer, you will be able to program your Argon via your computer. Note that the modchip does not need to be inside the Wii to upgrade.

ARGON-SPI INTRODUCTION:
ARGON is a chip the introduce the programming concept called "MULTIFUNCTIONAL JTAG". ARGON is consisting of a last generation ACTEL chip that can be re-programmed with different firmwares, last version has a SPI 2Mbit flash on board for new few wires firmwares. The JTAG update suffers the fact that it needs an external programmer to be implemented, but it gives to the developers the possibility to COMPLETELY CHANGE THE CHIP CODE, SOMETHING UNTHINKABLE FOR OTHER PROJECTS.
Currently ARGON is being used by Wii D2C systems successfully, it has a UNIQUE firmware in the world made up by 13 threads.
We’re shortly releasing a new firmware for PS2 that will work on ARGON., making just a simple programming operation ARGON chip will be ok for PS2 consoles. This is an example of how great is the possibility to change the chip’s logic code!!
REMEMBER, the JTAG programming works also if the chip is NOT INTALLED, which is great for resellers to have up-to-date stocks because they are able to program the stoks by their own.
